Phosphorylation is an important reaction in organic synthesis especially in DNA or RNA synthesis where nucleotides are made by adding phosphate groups to nucleosides. Phosphorylation agents can transfer a phosphoryl group, (HO)2P(0), to a nucleophilic center. These are used in many applications.
