An aliphatic amine is an amine in which the amino group (–NH₂, –NHR, or –NR₂) is attached to an aliphatic (open-chain or non-aromatic) carbon atom. These amines are derived from ammonia by replacing one or more hydrogen atoms with alkyl groups and generally show basic character due to the lone pair of electrons on the nitrogen atom.
