Ethyl Isocyanate

Ethyl isocyanate (C₂H₅NCO) is a reactive organic compound containing the isocyanate functional group (–N=C=O). It is a colorless, volatile liquid with a sharp odor and is mainly used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and other organic chemicals. Due to its high reactivity toward water, alcohols, and amines, it readily forms ureas and carbamates. Ethyl isocyanate is toxic and must be handled with strict safety precautions under controlled conditions.
