Oseltamivir Phosphate is an antiviral medication used for the treatment and prevention of influenza A and influenza B infections. It works as a neuraminidase inhibitor, blocking the release of new virus particles from infected cells, thereby reducing the severity and duration of flu symptoms when taken early. Oseltamivir was discovered in the 1990s by researchers at Gilead Sciences and later developed and marketed globally by Roche under the brand name Tamiflu. It gained widespread importance during influenza outbreaks, especially the H1N1 pandemic in 2009, due to its effectiveness in controlling viral spread and reducing complications. It was first approved by the U.S. FDA on October 27, 1999, and later received updated approvals for expanded indications in subsequent years. Today, it remains one of the most widely used antiviral drugs for influenza management worldwide.
