Nizatidine is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist introduced in the 1980s to manage conditions caused by excess stomach acid. It works by selectively blocking H2 receptors in the stomach lining, thereby reducing acid secretion. Nizatidine became an important treatment for peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Compared to earlier H2 blockers like ranitidine, it offered similar efficacy with improved safety and tolerability. Over time, nizatidine has been widely used as a reliable option for acid-related gastrointestinal disorders.
