Lynestrenol is a synthetic progestogen of the 19-nortestosterone class, widely used in hormonal contraceptives and for treating menstrual disorders, endometriosis, and other gynecological conditions by mimicking natural progesterone and regulating the menstrual cycle. It was first synthesized in the 1950s during the development of oral progestins and entered clinical use in the 1960s–1970s due to its effective progestogenic activity, oral bioavailability, and relatively low androgenic side effects. Over time, Lynestrenol has been incorporated into various contraceptive and therapeutic formulations, either alone or in combination with estrogens, and continues to be a valuable option in reproductive health management.
