Fluocortolone pivalate is a synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects, commonly used in eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis by modulating glucocorticoid receptors to suppress inflammation and immune response. It was developed in the 1970s–1980s as a more potent and longer-acting topical steroid with fewer systemic effects than older agents, and is now available in creams, ointments, and lotions. While highly effective, its use requires monitoring for local and systemic side effects, yet it remains an important drug in dermatological therapy.
