Antiepileptic drugs are used to treat epilepsy. These drugs reduce abnormal electrical activity in the brain, which is caused by overactive nerve cells. Antiepileptic medications are available in two forms.
1. Narrow spectrum. Antiepileptic drugs are prescribed to treat specific types of seizures. These are routinely used to treat or prevent seizures in a specific area of the brain.
2. Broad spectrum Antiepileptic drugs are used to treat or prevent seizures in multiple areas of the brain.
